Cannon Survey Center Gives Student Workers Real-Life Experience

In an effort to bring Nevadans more options for electricity, NV Energy and the Department of Energy jointly sponsored a trial program for single-family residential customers called Choose When You Use. NV Energy enrolled volunteer households and then supplied them with new time-varying rates, programmable thermostats, and digital energy education. According to NV Energy, approximately 5,000 customers in southern and northern Nevada are taking part in this two year trial program.

Scholarships Available to Help Re-Entry Students Finish Their Degrees

Non-traditional students make up more than 20 percent of all undergraduate students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. These are students who had their education journey disrupted by family commitments, military service, finances, or other reasons. Not surprisingly, money is often a barrier for adult learners wishing to complete their degree. UNLV’s Community2Campus office within the Division of Educational Outreach administers several scholarships earmarked especially for students returning to college after an extended interruption.

OLLI at UNLV Receives Dignity Health Grant

OLLI at UNLV is the recipient of a $45,000 grant from Dignity Health to expand the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) class and OLLI at UNLV membership in the urban core of Las Vegas. The grant will be implemented in partnership with the City of Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department and the UNLV School of Nursing and will help support health-related classes including the CDSMP at community centers and senior communities in targeted areas.
