The Division of Educational Outreach is pleased to announce the opening of two new computer teaching labs at our UNLV Paradise Campus. While a handful of courses tested the PC lab in August, the sleek, silvery Macs will welcome their first users in mid-September. The new computer will stay busy with the expanding schedule of technology classes UNLV Continuing Education has put together.
Senior Program Coordinator Kyle Yahiro-Okino coordinates technology courses for UNLV Continuing Education and closely follows evolving trends in technology use and training. First on Yahiro-Okino’s technology trend watch list is social media, especially as it relates to business. A new fall course, “Getting Connected: Build and Manage your Brand Identity with Social Media,” will teach participants how to use social media to build awareness of their business, connect with potential customers, and drive sales. The next session begins September 15.
Demand for smart phone and tablet training is also on the rise, says Yahiro-Okino. More and more, these technologies are integral to the way we communicate and conduct business. People can come to Continuing Education to learn about iPad basics, or for more advanced training about leveraging tablet technology for their business. Continuing Education also offers technical training in developing graphics and content for mobile devices and the web.
The new Paradise PC lab will host Microsoft Office training, home computing, social media courses, and HTML classes this fall. The Mac lab will be utilized for Mac-specific classes, Adobe Creative Suite courses, and the Internet Design Certificate and Print Design Certificate programs.
