Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP (with flame logo)® in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements.

UNLV does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP (with flame logo)® certification marks. CFP certification is granted only by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to those persons who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met its ethics, experience, and examination requirements.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Admission Criteria
Participants in the certificate program must have a four-year degree, and three years of experience in financial services, or three years of experience in a supervisory or executive position in the government or a non-financial services company. Any requests for exceptions to these admissions requirements must be made in writing to the Program Director. A work experience resume will be required.

Tuition
The cost of the program is $4,500 which includes some materials, parking permit, and CEUs; texts are approximately an additional $700-$1000. Payment is due in full before the program starts. Textbooks for each segment should be purchased just before that segment begins, as there are sometimes new editions to the books.

Earning the Certificate
Upon successful completion of all required courses, participants will receive a certificate of completion, suitable for framing, from UNLV Educational Outreach. In addition to attendance requirements, additional work and reading will be required outside of classroom time. All tests and quizzes must be passed with grades higher than 70%.

Faculty
UNLV's faculty in the program will consist of professionals from the industry who are CFP® certificants, or who hold appropriate related professional designations, or licenses. The faculty presents the material in a manner that allows students to utilize their time efficiently and effectively outside the classroom.

The University of Nevada Las Vegas does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP (with flame logo)® marks. CFP certification is granted solely by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience and examination requirements.
