BASIC CERTIFICATE
IN PRINT DESIGN
Program Overview:
This program introduces you to the core print design software tools that are used in the Commercial Design Industry. This program is suitable for those who have no formal training and experience in the graphic design industry and seek to understand the basic concepts of print design and the applications designers use on a daily basis to complete their projects. Graduates from this program will understand the various Adobe print design applications and how they are used together in the workflow of a print design project. Students seeking further knowledge and skills in the print design field may continue their learning by pursuing the Advanced Certificate in Print Design.
Prerequisites:
You must have a working knowledge of the Windows operating system including navigating, creating, editing, and saving files and folders.
Our labs are equipped with Windows computers. Students have the option of bringing and using their own PC or Mac notebook computers to class. Bringing a 1GB or larger flash drive to class for saving files is recommended.
Although we provide the required software programs in our computer labs during instructional times, you will also need access to the software, if applicable, at home or at work to complete some of the exercises, assignments, and projects.
Basic Certificate Requirements:
The program includes four required courses to earn certification. You may enroll in individual courses without the intent of completing the certificate program. Courses completed in the Basic Certificate in Print Design are transferrable into the Advanced Certificate in Print Design program. Creating an Identity from Concept to Completion must be the last class taken to complete the requirements of this certificate program.
REQUIRED COURSES (6.3 CEUs):
1. Adobe Illustrator - Level I (16 hours, 1.6 CEUs)

Adobe Photoshop - Level I (16 hours, 1.6 CEUs)
3.
Adobe InDesign (16 hours, 1.6 CEUs)
4.
Creating an Identity from Concept to Completion
(15 hours, 1.5 CEUs)
* Courses and workshops are not offered every semester.
* Materials included with some courses are handouts and instructor-developed curriculum.
* Some classes have required textbooks that are not part of the tuition fees. See catalog course descriptions for more information.
* Completion of the Advanced Certificate in Print Design is not an explicit or implicit promise of employment. UNLV Educational Outreach does not provide job placement services.
* Refund Policy: Cancellation of registrations must be received in writing (email is acceptable) no later than two (2) business days prior to the start date of the course in order to receive a refund. No refunds will be issued after this date. All refunds will be minus a $10.00 administrative fee per course.

ADVANCED CERTIFICATE
IN PRINT DESIGN
Program Overview:
This program introduces you to the fundamentals of the Commercial Design Industry with an emphasis on print communication in the professional world. You will learn about fundamental design theory as well as get hands-on training utilizing industry standard design software. The program is also suitable for professionals who may be crossing disciplines, such as web design to print design or for those who are responsible for marketing and designing materials in their current employment but have no formal training and experience in the graphic design industry. Graduates from this program will possess the knowledge-base and skill-sets necessary for an entry-level position as a Production Artist in the professional community.
