View courses| View Courses Offered This Semester | View courses

The paralegal profession continues to expand both in the number of employment opportunities and potential career paths.  Having options in this dynamic profession empowers the paralegal.  The new online Paralegal Specialist Certificate programs are designed to allow working paralegals to:

  • enhance skills and knowledge about specific areas of law
  • increase their value to current employers
  • expand career opportunities

This is an opportunity for you to increase your skill level, add to your resume with a UNLV Certificate as a Paralegal Specialist, and increase your knowledge of various fields within the legal industry.  You will have the opportunity to specialize in various fields of law including but not limited to:  bankruptcy law specialist, family law specialist, immigration law specialist, etc.  Nine topics are available and more will be added in Spring, 2010.  Curriculum is being developed for over 20 different specialist concentrations.

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • have earned the UNLV Paralegal Certificate (or an equivalent certificate),
  • have earned a degree in paralegal studies or
  • have a combination of a college degree in any area of study and legal work experience

If you are a UNLV Paralegal graduate you need not submit documentation unless requested.  Others must submit unofficial transcripts or copies of certificates and history of legal work experience. That documentation should be mailed to:
            Ann Tate, Program Coordinator
            4505 S Maryland Parkway
            Box 451019
            Las Vegas, NV  89154-1019
            Fax 895-4195

You may register and start at any time.  Upon completion, you will receive a UNLV Certificate, awarding 7.2 CEUs. You have four months to complete each program.  Extensions will be granted with a written request in writing and continuous progress in the program. Once your eligibility and registration have been verified, a course facilitator will grant you access to the course web site, Paralegal Space, where you can order your textbooks and make your choice between E-Discovery and Advanced Legal Research. Textbooks average $100 per course.
